Plasticdiet Indonesia Applies Reuse Protocol at 2024 Indonesia MotoGP Mandalika

The Indonesia MotoGP at Mandalika event will be held again in 2024. This event is one of the largest international sports events that is eagerly awaited to be held in Indonesia. Having improvement at Indonesia MotoGP, Plasticdiet Indonesia together with Injourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) initiated a policy of reducing single-use plastic in one of the visitor areas. This policy begins in the VIP Lounge area by implementing the Reuse Protocol, where this protocol requires the use of reusable cups, plates and cutleries, and does not allow visitors to bring single-use plastic into the room. On this occasion, Plasticdiet Indonesia collaborated with BALIKIN, a provider of reusable cup services, to provide reusable cups that can be used by almost 1000 visitors while enjoying the 2024 Indonesia MotoGP at Mandalika.

The implementation of this reuse protocol is also carried out to ensure that food and drinks provided in the VIP Lounge area not use single-use plastic packaging. Plasticdiet Indonesia team conducts regular monitoring during the event to provide information to every visitor and catering to ensure that no single-use plastic waste is generated from the VIP Lounge area. During the implementation of this protocol, visitors can follow these provisions and there are no complaints from them. DORNA Sports, as the owner of the MotoGP license, appreciates this protocol and hopes that it can be implemented throughout the circuit area. Plasticdiet Indonesia and BALIKIN also ensure that the reusable cutleries and containers provided can be collected to be washed clean according to standards, and can be reused for consumption during the 2024 Indonesia MotoGP event.

The implementation of this reuse protocol is in line with ITDC’s Journey To Green Tourism Mandalika program, which is currently being promoted. In addition to the implementation of the reuse protocol, Plasticdiet Indonesia also surveyed visitor behaviour related to waste management at the 2024 Indonesia MotoGP event. The results of this survey will be used as the basis for compiling recommendations for more responsible waste management initiatives. The implementation of this reuse protocol is also expected to be applied in other activities managed by ITDC. Ultimately, the main goal of the efforts made is to prevent waste generation and reduce the burden of waste management at the local final processing site (landfill).
