MERIT (Methane Emissions Reduction Initiative for Transparency) Project is a collaborative program by Plasticdiet Indonesia, Yaksa Pelestari Bumi Berkelanjutan (YPBB) Bandung, and the Environmental Education Center (PPLH) Bali, which develops a credible, science-based monitoring method for landfill methane performance. Implemented in Jakarta, West Java, and Bali, this program is accompanied by assistance to local governments to enhance their capacity for monitoring, planning, managing, supervising, enforcing, and reporting landfill performance. The MERIT Project is expected to generate scientific evidence for methane emission prevention and facilitate informed policymaking in waste management in Indonesia. The MERIT Project is supported by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia and is part of the Global Methane Hub program— a global funding initiative for methane mitigation in the energy, agriculture, and waste sectors.
